My tanks

I have been working hard on my tanks since January.

I got a 10 gallon for my gourami and put my delta tail betta in the Eclipse 6. The betta was in an Eclipse 3 before. He's very happy living alone in his "new" tank. I put in some ghost shrimp, for scavenging, but he thought they were quite yummy. I need to get him some more. He's working on a bubble nest right now.

My 10 gallon was for my dwarf gourami and a few friends, 6 glowlight tetras and 4 panda cories (I know I was over stocked, but I do 30% waterchanges twice a week). Unfortunately, Gormie injured himself 2 weeks ago. I hoped he would get better, but I had to euthanize him (he was obviously dying) and I had to stop his suffering.

I have a penguin mini, a heater (I live in Hawaii, The temps don't vary much) and a new bubble wall. I also have java moss and another plant (don't know name) and tetras and cories are very happy. And healthy!

I just wanted to brag about how much better that I've become about caring for my fish in the last year. I started keeping fish in January 2004.

Re: My tanks

Hi Susie,

Sounds like your fish are happy and healthy - sorry about the fish you had to euthanize.

Once you figure out what needs to be done to properly care for your fish it really makes this hobby so much fun. It sounds pretty stupid, but I actually enjoy performing water changes now. Call me lame-O !

Take care,
Mike

Re: My tanks

I don't mind the maintenence very much either!

I forgot to add that even tho I have learn so much about fish in the past year, I still have SO much to learn! Aren't we lucky that so many people with many years of experience are so willing to help newbies! I really can't thank them enough.

Re: My tanks

Sorry about your gourami.

Its great to be able to see how much you've accomplished and how far you've come isn't it? I started keeping fish as an adult just 2 years ago. I've had as many as 15 tanks up at one time now, I've currently got 9, I've bred Angelfish and now I'm on my second pair of breeding Green Terrors.
Definately thank goodness for the internet and the willingness of complete strangers to help us learn this hobby. I've learned far more than I had ever hoped to in such a short amount of time!

Wish I could say that I enjoyed the water changes! But with 9 tanks to maintain, its quite a chore! But hey, I did it to myself, right?

Re: My tanks

If you guys don't already have one - It's a little pricey, but I highly recommend getting a python vacuum system for your water changes. I have 4 tanks running right now and it only takes about 30 minutes total to change out the water in all of 'em.

Re: My tanks

I agree, I love my Python, I paid a lot for it but I noticed the price has gone down alot at Walmart, less than 30$ now.
