Re: NEW TANK YEAH ! !

It really all depends on what you are looking for, and how much time do you want to spend on maintenance. I prefer the simpler/easy tanks with low light plants and natural decorations. A pair of angels with cory cats, blue rams, and a bristlenose pleco would be a pretty tank. Here is a link for cookie cutter set-ups if you are interested in african cichlids, and it also has suggestions for other fish:

Re: NEW TANK YEAH ! !

The bichir can get up to 16" and requires a minimum of 100 gallons.* Rainbow sharks require a minimum of 50 gallons and tend to be somewhat aggressive. Not sure which red tail shark you are talking about as that's another name for the rainbow, but if you mean the red tailed black shark, it gets very aggressive as it gets older and doesn't tolerate many tankmates, especially not one with the same body shape as itself. It will stake out its territory and will not tolerate anyone invading its space. 50 gallons is also the recommended minimum for it because of its personality. A 30 gallon isn't adequate, imo.

I saw some lovely long-finned zebra danios at Petco today. I'd like to get some for my community tank. Long-finned rosy barbs are also lovely. There are so many options, it depends on what you are going for.

Re: NEW TANK YEAH ! !

Just don't get fish that will grow too large as for a 30 gallon tank. And of course do not overstock. As long as your fish have plenty of space and the tank is not packed with them, they'll be fine. Good luck with your new tank

Re: NEW TANK YEAH ! !

Actually, the aggressive nature of Red-Tail Sharks kicks in before they're mature..from my experience, they can be extremely territorial even while young..recently I purchased two Blue-Rams that I put in a 20 gal. tank which had 4 Harlequins, two Cories and a young Red-Tail..and because it was 'HIS' tank, he immediately started nipping at the Rams until I removed him..in my opinion, unless the Red-Tail and the Rainbow are roughly the same age and size when they go in a tank, they will clash..how frequently, depends on the size of the tank..anything less than a 50gal with lots of hiding places,is asking for trouble.
