Is a 20G tank a good size as a breeding / holding tank for cichlid frys?

What kind of cichlids? Most fry will be fine there for a while but breeding depends on species.

Right now I have 1 / 3 yellow labs and 1m/1f borleyi - juvenile. I plan on getting 2 add'l female borleyi to balance the equation. I have a 10G QT but saw a 20G tank being sold for $85 - stand/filter/ - the works. I know the fish are too young to be breeding but am trying to be prepared. So B4 I invest $85 - wanted to make sure 20G would be good or should I keep my eyes open for a larlger tank. I realize the borleyi are the larger of the two fish but am hoping to share the fry or even sell them. Thanks.

33g is what most people I know with Malawi use to grow out around 50-100 fry to an inch with 3-4 water changes a week and feed at least 4 times a day to get a good growth rate. Extra filtration is also good with a grow out tanks.

Thanks, Allie - I thought 20G would be small. Now to convince hubby that I need to bring in ANOTHER tank into the house and WHERe to put it! He loves the fish but I do all the work!

Keeping my eyes open ont he classifieds! I saw your home page and looked at the cichild pics you posted. They were awesome.
