Okay, I only know about it because I looked up the phrase when it was used in
Army of Darkness. "Klaatu... Barada... (cough)nik(cough)... There. I said it. I said the words."
I kind of get what you're talking about, Lucy, with the old movie thing, but at the same time, some of them deserve to be remade, especially if it's done lovingly and they do it justice. In the end, there are no new stories, only new ways of telling them. Movies are just more honest about it in some ways.
As an example: I just watched
Invasion which is a remake of
Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The movie was good (up 'til the end, at least). Particularly with the movies with horror/sci-fi elements, remaking them is sometimes necessary for modern folks to really get, because the old versions are seen as cheesy.
