| | Fish Keeper | I feel its just another day, it should be remembered, but often it seems like people still mourn. I find its best just to move on. Don't get me wrong, it still strikes a nerve with me....its partly why i joined the Military. I just think people mourn the day to much when they should just give it a nice thought and go about business. Remember the days right after 9/11? Where EVERYONE flew the American Flag and the country kept going strong? We were down but not out and kept on trucking, thats what we need to continue to do.
Today driving to school local police and fire was out in the middle of some streets, flags hung from wires, lights going, everyone standing at attention to the flag. This was about the time of the attacks on that day. |

| | Fish Keeper | I had just started high school at the time. I came out of my bedroom in the morning to find my mom watching the tv (something she rarely does, especially in the mornings.)
I remember seeing only 1 plane had hit the towers by that time.
By the time I'd gotten to school and into 2nd period (My 1st period teacher didn't think that anything other than physics was important enough to discuss) where my teacher had jury rigged the tv into picking up a local news signal, the other tower had been hit and both the towers had collapsed, as well as the Pentagon being hit. (I can't remember hearing anything about the plane going down in the field at that point.)
I spent the rest of the day watching the news in the classrooms and freaking out because my grandma was in New York on a business trip and she was pretty close to the towers. When I had left for school, my mom hadn't been able to get in contact with her because the phones were so busy there. She was safe and sound in her hotel though.
I think it's important for the nation to remember this day but not to let it get out of hand. I don't like what some of the people of our country did after the fact, feeding and goading the hysteria but I still think it's something we need to remember.
It was a turning point in our society. A lot of things changed after 9/11, better or worse, and it's at least something to learn from. |

| | Fish Master | Gamer, I am so proud of you. I know several people who have struggled with addictions, and I know it's not an easy thing to do. I'm so glad you decided to make this choice. It is the best thing you can do for yourself. Remember to let others help you, and to stick with your hobbies and the things that make you happy! And we're all with you too |

And we're all with you too | Thanks for the kind words. I had struggled for awhile then when 9/11 came...giving them up and quitting cold turkey (which had my physically ill for weeks) suddenly became so simply in spite of the withdrawal. The attacks just made me a much stronger person and I understand they changed alot of people. I sought help from my family and reconciled with them so I still don't think I'd have been able to stick to being clean without letting them back in my life.
I have the occassional drink but never do in excess and I never ever touch drugs, not since September 11, 2001.
7 years clean now, woo hoo! |

| | Fish Keeper | I was just wrapping up the morning gig at my radio station, when my program director, who used to live in New York, flew into the studio yelling " A plane just crashed into the World Trade Center!".. my show finished at 9 a.m.(eastern), and I went to our news-room to catch the coverage, and on hearing what was happening, immediately blurted out " That was no accident!" .. we were still arguing when the second plane went in.. and I knew then, nothing would ever be the same anywhere on the planet.. I was right.. one of my schoolmates from Montserrat was a NY fireman, and lost his life when the second tower collapsed.. R.I.P Kieth. |

| | Master Of Fish Poo! | It makes me think how sad it is that most people seem to have forgotten about it.
I was home sick from work when a friend IM'd me that a plane had been hijacked so I turned on the tv in time to see the towers come down. That night every gas station I saw had a line of cars at every pump with people thinking shortages were about to happen. Here in Denver, they evacuated the biggest building downtown and I saw jets patrolling during the day. |

We share about a lot of things other than fish around here. I am sure that you will be able to make yourself stick to the fish related threads if that is what you choose to do.
By the way, I don't think I have said: Welcome to FishLore. |

| | Fish Addict | Thanks. Sorry for being cranky I didn't mean to censor you guys. I shouldn't shut out that day either. I watched the towers come down from the roof of my office building in mid-town. I had left my bedroom window open and my bed was covered thickly with the ashes. I walked home from work and haven't worn high heels since. I have a lot of terible memories but I was lucky and didn't know anyone directly who was killed. |

| | Fish Keeper | It was a day that made my gut wrench and wished I didn't have any children. Now, I pray. For families who've lost loved ones for any reason, for the ppl. who are fighting in a war that has no ending, (how do you kill all the bad guys in the world?), and for all of us. Kinda deep (maybe), but basically I want it to be another day that reminds me to think of others. Sincerely. |

| | Fish Keeper | I work for Turner Broadcasting (TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and such) in their IT department. We're also the parent company of CNN. That day was scary as heck!! We were watching the TV after the first tower was hit. I saw the second tower being hit live on CNN and was like *insert bad word here*.
CNN had some threats that day after the towers were hit. I was at work until close to 1 am. We had to setup a second broadcast point for CNN incase they got hit. We were scrambling around finding computers to be used just in case. Oh and no overtime... Last edited by sirdarksol; September 13th, 2008 at 09:29 AM.

| | Fish Addict | I was going to college in the city at the time it happened. A student was running down the hall screaming the towers were hit, so we all sped out of class and went to the roof of the history building. Watched it fall down. Time seemed to stand still. Looking back on it we were pretty stupid, we should have been running the other way. Shortly after that school was closed and we were all sent home.
I try not to think about it. I know that probably seems wrong, but I was there for it, so it is not something I want to relive over and over again. |

This is part of the reason I try to keep it as "just a day." Like Slug said, many people still mourn or have fears surrounding the day, and while those who witnessed it firsthand have a reason to do so, most of us, who were across the country, should not still be grieving. Here in MN, there is still talk about planes crashing into the IDS Center or the Mall of America. It's something that should be watched for, but Homeland Insecurity is using the day to keep us afraid. Wary is good, but constant fear is numbing, which negates wariness. |
