Python Gravel Cleaner ?

Before I invest in the Python Gravel Cleaner, the one that you hook directly to your faucet, and it also drains the old water into your sink. Is this a good investment? They look like they would be so much easier to use than a bucket and hauling water from the sink to the aquairum. What a messy job this can be. My question is treating the new water for chlorine. When I do a water change now, I always add the dechlorinator to the water before I add it to the tank. Would I put the dechlorinator directly into the tank as I was filling it, or is the Python cleaner not really recommended, because you can't treat the water before you add it to the tank? I hope I made sense. If they can be used, are they any good? I sure would love to have one if they work the way they claim.

Thanks

Diane

Hi Diane ...if it fits your faucet, YES go for it!! and yes you can put the product in the tank with the water or even fill a cup with the product and dump it in with the new water...its so much less work, so i hear!! but my faucets dont fit with it and I haul buckets

I'm crazy enough to REPLACE the whole faucet just to fit the python. Its worth it. One of my best investments i've made for the hobby. They are actually quite cheap now.

I add dechlor as the water goes into the tank. As long as you get it in there at least about 5 mins after the water change you are safe. I just do it during because its easy and safer that way so i won't forget. Directly to the tank into the stream.

I couldn't live w/o my python! I used the old bucket method and old gravel vac for the first month I had my 55g tank (and for years w/ my smaller tanks) then I finally got the python, I couldn't say enough about that thing! I love it!
The only thing that worries me is the tank where I have small fry in them, that brings up a whole new question, I was tank cleaning when I found my bristlenose fry, so I am now scared to go on a cleaning rage in certain tanks w/ the python that being the only flaw thats saying a lot.

I use a python and I have a 10 gallon bucket ..I suck the water out of the tanks I am cleaning ( I have 5 but only use the pyton on 4 as 1 is to small) and adjust the water as it runs into the 10 gallon bucket..I then use a 1/2 gallon jug to scoop the water out add declor stir and dump into the tank. I did use it the other way when I first got it but the chlorine made me go into a mini cycle when I did that sooooo....

OK,, the Python saved my marriage. That's how good it is, just kidding. But I don't have to have honey helping me hall the buckets, etc... sooooo

What I did was drag my son with part of the faucet and the part of the python that hooks up to the faucet to the plumbing department and said I want this to fit on to that. A little grumbling and a few minutes later he came up with the connection I needed. He probably would have grumbled more if I would have taken the python to the store to look for another faucet for him to put in.

Shawnie I was too cheap to spring for a python so I use a garden hose with a separate fitting for my sink. Drain it out/put it back in and I don't waste water down the sink while siphoning.
