Gourami Freaking Out!

IDK why, but whenever I go up to my tank, my Pearl freaks out and literally slams into the corner of my tank and keeps running into it up and down. Is it because it's scared? I haven't really made "contact" with my fish alot lately, like watch them and have them get used to me because of school. Is it because of that, and so she is scared of me? It's really scaring me how hard she is running into the glass...

she is still adjusting. here's some tips:

1. start by approaching your tank slowly, so not to alarm her.

2. Fish are intilligent, more than the average person would think. positive asscociation, linking your presence with a treat like a bloodworm or something will make her excited to see you, rather than thinking you're there to eat her or something. Try it.

3. Have some friends do this too, to get her used to people, and not just you.

4. Consider planting some live plants in the locations she most often hits, to cushion the impact.

5. Spend some quality time with her, socialize through the glass and stuff.

gouramis in my experience become very skittish when newly adjusting, the best thing to do is give her time and be as quite and gentle with her as you can for a couple of weeks. i had a similer problem with mine, took a while to fix but it was woth it!

Hey Oblivion long time no see went by Northside Aquatics yesterday for dry goods and came home with another fish. Gotta quit doing that
Your Gourami also needs hiding places to feel safe, plants (real or artificial) will help with that. They also like a few floating plants.
You've gotten good advice above, thats all I can add to it
good Luck

I've had her for awhile. I think it's just because I haven't socialized with her alot. Yeah, I need to get more plants...and hiding spots for her. So do you like Northside Aquatics? 'Tis a pretty nice place, I haven't been there...in months...been busy. Thanks for the info. I will try to "cushion" those areas.

Yes love Northside aquatics can't go in there without buying something alive
If you don't want live plants you could use artificial. I've seen some really nice looking ones lately.

my gourami just likes food, he's like a dog.

you can train the gourami that you're a food despenser (and therefor friendly) by netting her up and feeding her in the net. after a week or so she'll start swimming into the net on her own, and she definitely won't run away from you anymore.

Still the same. It's hard with school now, taking advanced courses so I don't really have time to socialize much, and when I do, I just wanna sit down or play a game. But I'll try that net thing so she knows that I'm not going to eat her or anything...lol
