Hurricane Gustav

Well, now it's my turn to ask - is anyone else in the projected path of this storm? We're pretty far inland and have no fear of storm surge, but those winds can be nasty!

We had school closed last Monday because of the last hurricane. I have lots of relatives going to stay at my parents house in Birmingham, they're leaving tonight. Pretty much all of my extended family lives in New Orleans (grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles) except for our family. My grandparents lost their house in Katrina and none of my family wants to stick around and ride out hurricanes any more.

I hope all my fellow Fish Loreans who are in it's path stay safe during the upcome storm.

I hope and pray that everyone will be okay and the ones that are in the path make it out of the path okay!

Thanks, everyone. I agree.
There is still a pretty big cone of uncertainty:

It could make landfall anywhere from Mississippi to Texas, probably Monday morning. Central Louisiana is still the most likely scenario, but these storms can turn surprisingly fast. The 4:00 (Central) update states Gustav has achieved 150 mph sustained winds. Almost a Cat. Five!

New Orleans has started evacuating, curiously enough, to Houston. I fail to see the logic in that...

Thank you, to everyone who has expressed his or her concern. We are around 12 hours from landfall and it appears the storm will probably miss me (Houston area) and may even spare New Orleans the worst of it. Hanna looks like she is turning north, so I wish the best for our east coast friends. Slug, Angela and Lucy, look out!

au01st, I pray your family is safe. It looks like NO has been pretty well evacuated. Hopefully, they will be spared this time.

I swear my husband ordered these storms to convince me to move to Dallas! I've been down here for 16 years and I've only dealt with Allison (scary enough for this yankee gal!). We left during Rita, but we were supposed to anyway, for my stepdaughter's birthday. That was a nightmare I will never forget!
