adding rocks?

Hey all

I was wondering if you guys had any opinions about adding rocks to my tank.....
I am still waiting to take my filter back to the store to have them look at it ...no matter what I do I cant get it going....( I am sick with a cold right now so the tank is just sitting there filled with salt water and no filter running yet ) anyway

I live on Long Island ( north shore ) and was wondering about adding rocks from the beach to my tank.
I love to collect rocks...have picked some great ones!

They arent going to be right out of the water and into my tank...more along the lines of just collected off the beach..sitting up in my living room for the last year rocks....cleaned and dry so I dont add any bad germs/bacteria etc to the tank...
is that ok?

thanks
Lee

Rocks are a great way to add character to an aquarium, but you need to make sure what you are putting in is safe for your tank. Cleaning them is exactly right. Make sure you scrub and rinse any possible residue from the rocks.Try to identify the rocks and then check what, if anything, they may leech into the water. If you post pix , some folks may be able to help ID them and give you tips on how to clean that specific rock. Once identified, it should be a snap to determine if they are water safe

Does anyone know if "plain" rocks they would harm any corals or live rock that might go into the tank?
