Would you trust a rimless tank?

Would you trust an All Glass Aquariums (Aqueon) 30gal without the rims? The tank would be on a solid flat surface...but i'd like to get others opinions on this.

Thanks. The reason i ask is i have a stand and the bottom is just a little over 36" long. A 30gal (my 30gal) is 36" long without the rims. With the rims the tank is a little to big to fit in. So without them it will slide in almost perfectly.

We agree with Allie, but it will work only under one condition!

Condition: No swimming in the tank!

the rims on glass tanks are almost purely aesthetic. they do serve to keep from scratching the table, and they give a little ledge to put the lid on...but beyond that they don't do anything.

We have a few 30 longs without their top rim that have been set up here for 6 months with no issue.

I might play it safe and just modify the stand. Tank doesn't has as thick of glass as i'd feel safe with i don't think.

I would say like Dino said that you would be pretty safe without the top rim, probably not so much without the bottom... the water pressure is much less at the top

The top rim is aesthhetic, TRUE , but it also protects the glass from getting small chips when it gets banged.

The bottom rim is actually a cushion so if your stand is not quite perfect you could have pressure points, the bottom rim has a layer of silicone between the rim and the glass.

The most extreem example I have ever seen was a buddy of mine "Rodney" would set two wooden oak barrels with a 55 gallon salt water tank on top.
Only the center part of the two barrels touched the bottom rim, the outer part of the barrels were wider than the tank and did not support the bottom rim.

Well Rod built up a sucessfull busniess leasing these tanks to the local resturants in Sarasota, Florida.
He would maintain the tanks once a week, the resturants did nothing but give Rod a monthly check.

I had a 20 gallon high tank for over 30 yrs with no top or bottom rim.....it eventually split down the back but this was because I lived in a upstairs apptment beside a train track and the appt used to shake like the dickens when the train went by and one day the tank just couldn't take the vibrations anymore....lol
