feeling a little guilty

As I am getting ready to sear up some fresh Ahi a buddy of mine gave me that he caught a couple of days ago............................I was starting to feel a little guilty, being the total fish nuthouse that I am. I was just wondering if any of you fellow fishlorians feel the same way or if any of you stopped eating fish altogether................

Just curious

My grandpa and I recently went fishing for channel and bullhead cats. Cleaning them was a day in the opposite of heaven

I've been raised on eating fish on a regular basis. I have no problem watching fish getting cleaned or cleaning them myself. Idk what it is. Its the same way with hunting. I love animals but the moment I get a gun in my hand those bunnies better run fast!

Now see I could never do that...........................If I had to kill everything I ate...........................I'd be one heck of a vegitarian....I use to have no problem with catching and cleaning fish either, and never feel that way when in a restuarant eating fish. The feeling just came over me as I started to prepare the Ahi. I started looking at the filets thinking about what the fish must have looked like

I've never eaten fish/seafood - now that I own fish, I never will.

I eat fish. I've gone fishing but I always throw the fish back in the water and use small hooks so I don't hurt them. I never feel bad when I eat fish because at least I know the fish was killed to be eaten, not wasted. Its a natural occurrence in nature. Do you think a bear would feel bad for catching and eating fish? I don't think so.

Well a bear is just trying to survive.................You and I have other choices that are readily available..................Bears don't make very good fishkeepers either

Why did I guess that about you?? So there's no conflict in your mind when fishing and cleaning fish?

I have no issues cleaning and filleting a fish to eat. Infact, I am planning in the next couple of years to have a currently dry, large pond resealed and to stock it with catfish. I am working on the reluctance to kill other animals, but so far no pang of regret on fish, but of course, we are all different.

(Dino tells the fish in our fishhouse that I will eat em if they don't watch out for me.. of course I wouldn't....most of them are too small. )

I don't eat much fish but I did have some really good Ahi last night...

I'm a hypocrite! I couldn't kill anything to eat it but I can go to the store and get my fish and meat out of nice little packages where I don't have to see their eyes staring back at me. I think if I had to eat something with it's eyes watching me I'd end up not eating...

I'm completely ok with eating meat and fish in general though!

My fish would eat each other in a heartbeat if only they could get at each other and fit one another into their mouths... somehow I don't feel any guilt at eating a totally different species when they go around chowing down on their own caviar and offspring (especially when it's a spawn I really really want... grrr)
Plus main ingredient in most fish foods... fish. I doubt they're going to judge my eating habits!

I'm fine eating fish, its just catching 'em that I don't like, seeing them actually alive is different than seeing them deepfried and breaded...

The funniest catching fish story happened last summer while I was taking a Field Ecology course. We were practicing a bunch of different sampling techniques for fish, and one of them was gill netting. So we set the nets out overnight, and next morning (disgustingly early like every morning there... 'twas an intense course!) went to see what we had caught and to release them. Most of the fish were in fine shape and swam off no problem, a few had to be resuscitated, though, so were rocked gently back and forth in the water to push water over their gills. All but one, a good sized walleye, made a full recovery and off they went. Being practical folk, however, the walleye that didn't make it was gutted on the spot after death was declared and made a tasty addition to dinner!
lol, very little guilt when you did all in your power to save the fish! Just preventing waste of a perfectly good fish...

no problem eating fish of meat of any kinds, apart from lamb, which is all bits... i love fishing for pike, its such a thrill. generally we throw the fish back, cause i would never eat a fish from a dirty lake. and pike look completely different to any fish in my tank. try fitting a 20 pound pike into a 30 gallon! lol

The only kind of fish I eat is tuna...and not very often It wasn't because I had fish, but I just don't like it. I like meat, just not fish/seafood.

I don't eat fish because it's icky, but I wouldn't have any problem with it. Eating salmon or bass is entirely different from eating Tinfoil Barbs and Betas because they're entirely different species. It's like the difference between eating pigs and eating dogs, their only commonality is their respective kingdoms.

I also wouldn't have a problem with killing my own food, I'd would eat just chicken (I don't even like beef and pork much to begin with...). I'd even do it the classic way; keep the chickens until they stop laying eggs, then eat the chicken. Yum.

Our aquarium isn't far from the dining room table. Whenever we eat fish, I always imagine that the fish in our aquarium are feeling all horrified and betrayed!
