Today I got my order from Drsfostersmith.com and I got a API freshwater kit. So I measured my amonia and pH. My amonia is at .25 - .50 and my ph is around 7.5. Im going to be doing the other tests tonight. So is the cycle going good so far or not? thanks!

You'll want to take a few readings to track the cycle and see if the ammonia and nitrites are going up or down.

good start. my reading for ammonia and nitrites at the beggining of the cycle was around the same...peaking around .50 PPM.

For a full picture on your cycle, we need nitrite and nitrate readings as well. Your ammonia reading shows you are definately under way, but without the other readings there isn't much more we can say. Your pH is pretty good...nothing to worry about there.

well, I tested for amonia, nitrite, and nitrate today. I got .50 for amonia. 5.0 for Nitrites. and 5.0 for nitrate. I still dont get the nitrogen cycle commpletly but I understand that amonia has to get to 0 if I am correct. thanks!

ammonia and nitrite have to get to 0. both can be equally as toxic.

From what I understand, if your ammonia is going down and you nitrites are going up then you are part of the way there. As soon as your ammonia is gone and your nitrites are at 0 also and the nitrates under 20 ppm then you are done. Someone on else on here please correct me if I'm wrong.
