New aquarium, glass or acrylic?

Hi everybody! I have a question or two? If we want to get a bigger tank, should we buy glass or I have been reading alot about acrylic lately? What do you all have? Also, which is better, gravel or aqua gems? And one more thing, my two apple snails have decided they like each other alot. They have laid eggs above the water line and now I am waiting in fear. Any suggestions? Please don't say kill them, because we are so incapable of doing that. Thanks for any info!!:; snail

How much bigger is bigger? Generally speaking acrylic is usually used for those very large tanks that would just be to heavy and to much work to be made of glass.

I own glass, always owned glass. Its cheaper then acrylic, won't scratch as easy, and not as prone to bowing as acrylic. Acrylic on the other had has its pluses. It seems to be clearer then glass (except low iron glass) and its much lighter then glass. Also usually does not have the black/fake wood seams around the edges, the trim. Its all rimless. Downside is if the acrylic is thin enough, eurobracing is used for the top of the tank to prevent bowing and IMO, looks unsightly.

I'd go with sand personally, but if you are stuck between just gravel and aqua gems i'd go with the gravel.

Just a thought, Do you still get the distortion through acrylic?
I mean that "ow my eyes ache and feel like they're being pulled from my head" feeling as you're looking down at your fish.
