Another hypothetical question

my friend is giving away her betta tank and it needs a home. my parents wont allow it (since I'm getting a 50 G later on... ugh I hate being a kid sometimes...). But if I did get the tank, I would add a Tetra Microfilter for filtretion, and try something different. Would it be possible to hold any other fish rather than bettas in 2.5 gallon tanks? Platy? Small catfish? Celestial Pearl Danios? If so, is it recommended?

not really...

the thing is that the other fish are all social... so even if one fit, it wouldnt be happy.

The only thing, other then plants, that should be housed in a 2.5 gallon tank is a small group of mini shrimp, like cherry shrimp. Other then that, you could keep a nice small bunch of plants.

Imo a 2.5 is not good for any type of fish, even a betta. You could use it for a few small inverts.

I have a pair of very small Orange Australe Killifish in a 2.5 gallon with lots of small plants. It seems to be a happy home for them I would not house Mollies, Platies, or any othe kind of social fish though. A tank of shrimp could also be cool

Even the so-called Dwarf Platyfish?

I assume you are talking about the "dwarf platies" that petsmart sells. There was a thread about this a while back, and there is no such thing as a dwarf platy. They are either baby platies being sold as dwarfs, or unhealthy stunted fish that have been bread for their small size. Besides, I think that even if you did get a couple, I think they would be to active for a 2.5 gallon tank.

yes, dont get those... they wont fit and they are weird... please dont. I have one by accident and I couldnt accurately tell if it was a girl or a boy until it was too late

The only fish I'd consider in a 2.5g might be 3 endler males, with extra water changes being done regularly. Otherwise, you're looking at heavily overstocked or social fish lacking buddies.
