| Buy them a couple of unasked-for pythons, alligators, chimpanzees, or elephants. They should get the picture.
As for a cheaper/practical method of dealing with it, I don't really know beyond asking them not to do it again. Let them know you appreciate the gesture, but it takes a long time to prepare to add new fish, and you want to be able to decide what goes into the tank, to maintain its delicate balance. |

| um always and try and upgrade tank size. that turns out always as a plus. if not ad extra filter to help filter the extra poop. |

| Is there by any chance you can try and start your friends up with a tank of their own? It seems when people usually pick out something its because what they've picked out is something they themselves like |

It's nice they think so highly of you that they'd do that for you, but it does create a dilemma.
Good luck |

| Now if those friends threw in a new tank with all the fixin's along with the fish, well I'd tell you have 'em over for every BBQ you ever had for the next year or so! = is one of the lesser known 'Einstein Theories'. |

| Getting a new tank for the new fish could mean more hard work! And you'd have to get the new tank cycled first before you can add them in. Serene, what kind of fish are they anyway? |

| they're silver hatchets. i love hatchets, but the silvers get pretty big... i just don't have room. they live far away, but he has a tank, and even was a well-known breeder of several species a while back. he's now telling me i need some bleeding heart tetras or something now too - i'm crossing my fingers that i don't wind up with those as well. |

Tell him you love the fish but you are afraid that makes your tank over crowded and could he please keep them for you until you can get a tank for them. Then never do it
