Well. I think that my mom basically said if I am to get a SW reef going I will have to rid one of my FW tanks. Because of space and plugs in my room.

I can't get rid of the fry/QT tank because that is very important. I am absolutely not getting rid of my 55 or my betta.

So now I am stuck with my two 29 gallon tanks.

Tank A: A gorgeous L333 pleco, 2 silver angels that I think may pair off, cherry shrimp, awesome driftwood in there and some on its way, 2 filters, and a newly built moss wall.

Tank B: Albino species 3 pleco who is just as nice as the L333, 4 purple moscow guppies, flourite substrate, some plants, and 2 filters.

Tank B seems like the one that I should get rid of to me. But I like the guppies and I spent quite a bit of $ on the substrate. The plants aren't really exploding like I wanted them to do. As a matter of fact they haven't grown much at all. But I like the fish and they have produced dozens of fry but they aren't selling all that well.


So what do y'all think?

Option A: Get rid of Tank B and get a SW reef
Option B: Get rid of Tank A and get a SW reef
Option C: Don't get rid of A or B and dont get a SW reef

Please give me your input.

Hi Cory, tough choice. Once I have a pet, I get attached so personally I would opt for C.

Salt water tanks are awesome, good luck in whatever you choose to do.

Option D: Build a tank rack, hire an electrician to upgrade the electrical service in your room, on the way back from the fish store with the reef supplies, go to the florist and get your mom some flowers.

I am in the same boat w/ sw I will have to give up a large fw tank. So until then I am keeping all of my 7 tanks! lol

that was hubbys conditions.... but he is liking sw a lot right now... so I might be able to move a big tank into the kids room, and get a sw for the living room.

I would do C... I love my fishies one by one from the tiniest little guppy and I wouldnt have the heart to get rid of any of them...

You could ask her if there was somewhere else you could place your fw tanks....

Tank rack: $200 in materials (pressure treated lumber)
Electric upgrade: Licensed master electrician $500 per day (one day's labor)
Flowers for mom: $40
ER bill for bumps/bruises: $900 (without xrays or CAT Scans)
1st/last/security deposit on an apartment: $2100
Having a SW tank: priceless

TOTAL project cost: $3740 (if you triple the amount spent on flowers, you may not have to pay for the ER visit or the new apartment: $820 project cost)

Hahahaha. Nice list! I will be sure to show my mom and see what she thinks.

I think I am going to sell my 29 (the one that houses Purple moscows) and get a 29 gallon Oceanic Biocube.

I've pretty much planned out my stock and equipment as well. Although my equipment might change if I can get a used 29BC, stand, SunPod, 2 Hydor Koralia 1's, Rio 6HF return, 100 watt visitherm stealth heater, digital thermometer and kent supplements. That is if I can find a way for the guy to ship the tank. I think he is willing to part with everything for $375-400.

Anyone ever shipped a tank or a glass box?


Planning on 32 pounds of live rock, 20 pounds of live sand, fish, coral, inverts; the whole deal. I am looking forward to it if I can get it.
