OMG! Out of all the time I have worked in the med feild and my teenage/college years. I have never been exposed to anyone who has taken acid let alone seen a "bad trip"...
The poor amb guys brought one in yesterday (it would have been funny if it was my husband, he would have had fun w/ it... saying stuff like I see dead people, do you?? just kidding thats actually what i would have said if I had any alone time w/ the patient... im mean like that.. lol
They called our dept to see patient "alpha" (since there is hippa laws) the patient was acting as if they were being backed into a corner going Im going to die and batting at stuff in mid air screaming, gasping.... I found it quite weird!
Then they asked for our dept to do a blood stick (we do blood gas's) they called when my boss and I were talking... I looked at him and said thats your stick! Im not into sticking people when they are seeing pink elephants!
Its a good thing, patient alpha had track marks all the way up their arms.... it was horrible...
luckily the patient was calm and he didn't stick himself while sticking the patient (talking about an exposure report, alpha could have had hep a, b, c... any of the reg diseases common to iv drug users)

Then I was laughing w/ my student therapists that I had about it, and the ekg tech was in the room too.. I told my student that alpha had track marks and she had been so sheltered she looked at me and said "what kind of track marks?" she meant it too! the ekg lady turned around and said "bunny tracks"... then my boss walked in and said bunny tracks my foot, try railroad marks! I brought up the movie "up in smoke" and those students were so clueless they looked at me and said we werent' even born until the mid 80s, I felt old at that point...

I was comparing the "trip" to the only other "trip" I had ever seen, you know when cheech ate all of chongs acid when the cop come up to the car..... at least the ekg tech knew what I was talking about.... (now I feel old)

This is all reasons why we need to push on our children how bad drugs are! Alpha was not old by any means, I cannot give an age, but lets just say alpha was still in high school...

I guess even with all the new drugs, some still do the classics.

Its just like I told my boss that the most I was ever exposed to besides alcohol was the kind that grows... and that was many many years ago (when I had just graduated high school) I never had been exposed to the stuff they have out now, or any of the others... I guess I must have been really sheltered? Of coarse my best friend that my mother ended up raising, her mother was a heroin addict. It was horrible, she even showed up to my friends wedding w/ track marks up her arm. She threw all the pics away of her mother.
We are still very close we lost our dads at the same age, and then my mom let her "live" with us to keep her from being exposed to the drugs by her mother, and all the abuse from random men, etc..
We lived in a small farming town to beat it all, where you would think people weren't into drugs like that.
