Great Book!!!

I picked up a new book for my godson's birthday...I'm sure when he receives it he will be so pleased()

"The Dumbest Generation" How the Digital Age stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future*
author:Mark Bauerlein

Entitlement issues etc...I've been registering voters in Southern California. I couldn't believe the apathy with the younger folks. "Nay, why should I vote?"blah, blah, blah! When I turned 18 I ran to my local PO and registered to vote. My parents made sure we volunteered, were involved locally.
Bummer...

that sounds like an interesting book...especially as the subjects of the book are my peers. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one with a clue, haha.

I just read Fahrenheit 451 (in 5 hours straight, couldn't put it down). The two sound thematically related in that both explore what happens when people stop thinking. I'd be interested to explore that a little bit, I might pick that one up!

While I agree that there are problems with America, I am always amused at how people try to pin it to one generation. I've often been amazed to see "adults" pass by a situation where they could help, only to see a teen or college-age kid stop to provide assistance.

I definitely agree that entitlement is a problem, though again, I don't think that's the sole realm of this generation. I think it was handed down by my generation, and we were given it by the previous generation.

Still, sounds like an interesting book, if only to yell at the author for a few hours.

i think maybe the real purpose behind the book is to start conversations and get people thinking about the problems. I could go on for hours and i haven't even read the book yet!

Yes Tavel, you're correct! What the issue at hand is not developing critical thinking etc. Not slamming youth, just addressing "How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our future"{to quote the Author}. Info in, Info out just as fast.
