Help!Troubled Mommy

Hi. My Mollie had babies last night and she seems to be in bad shape. She is very week and just there, still breathing but just bearly.
What could have happened to her? Anybody.

Gosh - I don't know. We had a guppy die after delivery. The babies were in the tank but she was dead. She was fairly new so we thought the shock coupled with the strain - but I really don't know.

Good luck.

I think I know what happened. I read in a book called "Fresh water aquariums for dummies" that after birth mommies need atleast 48 recovery period. than i should have seperated her from the male. I didn't by the time i saw her giving birth i didn't want to bother her or stress her out and i left her in there. then the male mollie started messing with her too soon. anyhow this is what i think happend to her but who knows. This last night whe passed away.....and this morning my frogs belly was really full. I think he ate some of the babies. That little pig. His face was so happy looking it was so funny but sd a the same time.

Yea, it can be tough on the livebearers dropping fry. I'm sorry that you lost her.

Sorry to hear you lost her.. we've been breeding Mollies for a while now, and while there's one school of thought that you should move expecting females to a nursery tank, we noticed that netting out a pregnant female, more often than not, is too traumatic for her and tends to lead to deformed fry or still-born.

We put more plants along with ornaments with hollows to allow: (a) the pregnant mom to have her fry, and then be able to hide from overly frisky males, to recover.. and (b) the fry to have sufficient hiding places to avoid being eaten until we could remove them to their own nusery tank, usually the morning after their birth.
