We are pretty new to having fish. We have a 20 gallon tank with four neon tetras, a dwarf gourami, two mollies and a velvet swordtail. They all seem to get along fine, but the person we talked to at the pet store said the neons won't do well with the swordtail, since they are so much smaller. Do we need to stick with about the same size fish in the tank or will they be fine? Right now the neons just seem to hang out in their little group and the other fish leave them alone. Thanks for all the help in advance.

welcome to fishlore!!! from what ive read, swordtails will eat fry but arent usually agressive unless you have two or more males...the gourami is more territorial and I would think if anyone was nawty, it would be the gourami...do you have pics?? we love to see everyones aquariums

So far our gourami has been a good boy, he used to stay to himself and has claimed the stump we have, but recently has started to share it with the swordtail. I have only been able to get decent pics of the mollies and swordtail, so here they are.

If the fish are getting along, then I think it's ok. If you see any problems (or if you just want to), you can increase the neon school to 6 but it sounds like they're schooling with only 4 already.
