Suggest a decent digital camera

I want to spend about 200 bucks. I seen a 10 megapixel digital camera with face recoginition and smart zoom. Does anyone know if this would be decent enough to take a nice unblurry picture of guppies (adult and juvies)? I of course would like to take a nice picture of humans but the old one i had seemed to do that well but not so good with fish. Any suggestions apprecitated.

I personally love Nikon cameras. Canon is very good too. Some people will debate which one - whether Nikon or Canon - is better, but I guess it's a matter of preference.

Too bad you'e not looking for a DSLR camera (one of those cameras with the lens) - with this one, you'd be able to take great photos of your fish, compared to a regular digital camera. But the lens cameras are much more expensive so that's the downside.

I wish i could afford the DSLR camera it sounds just like what im looking for. I just hope i can get the best camera for the small amount of money i have to spend. I had a cheap kodak which took great pics of people but not so good ones of fish. I guess i just want to be able to post some nice pics like many here have. I want to be able to bragg about my guppies or my cats and kids. I was planning on going to Sears because i will have a gift certificate or 4 for there.

My camera runs in the 200-300 range, its a kodak easyshare712is...
you can get it in hd.
It has all the bells and whistles, it does the macromode, it has the smartscene where when you are just learning to take the pics it sets the camera for you, its also a megazoom camera.

When I was looking dell.com had it listed as the recomended camera...
I got mine a little cheaper through a photoshop out of NJ online.
(about 230) then I bought my rechargeable batteries for about 15 bucks off of ebay and it came w/ 2 batteries and the home charger and a car charger...
it has sports mode, musem mode, panoramic mode, b/w... you name it... I could go on and on...
it helps center the faces up...
I love it!! I bet I have took 2000+ pics w/ mine.... especially after I bought a memory card for it. (check out my pics for the quality)

i have a canon powershot (the one that uses aa batteries, not the Li), and it's great for both people and fish. i'd recommend it. it's actually a little below your price range, so maybe you could even go for a better one one thing to check is that it has a good macro mode

I know you said you're going to sears, but you'll find much better prices and selection at www.bhphotovideo.com. Just a thought.

This is a great place to research different models. You can pick out a few models at the store (probably by price) and then compare them on that website. I would also suggest reading up in the glossary to get a better understanding of digital cameras.

Here's a little tip, high MP doesn't mean a better camera. especially for no-flash shooting, you actually want LOWER pixel count. The sensors are all the same size, but high pixel count cameras have smaller pixels (more pixels in the same area = smaller pixels) which collect less light. That gives grainy pictures, or will limit low light shooting (like no-flash). Lower pixel count cameras have larger pixels that collect more light. You'll get clearer pictures and have better results in low light.

I have a 6mp Nikon D50, and I make gorgeous 8x10 prints. I'm just trying to point out that megapixels aren't really an indicator of picture quality like the marketing would have you believe.
