I hope that I'm doing this right....

So, I spent all day yesterday bleaching, boiling, and arranging the rocks in my new 65 gallon tank for my African cichlids. It is taking the place of my 40 gallon breeder tank and I am using the same stand and hood. Tonight I need to transfer all of the fish, filters, equiptment etc. over to the new tank and get everything up and running. I wrote down a list of steps for myself to make sure that everything goes smoothly. I just wanted to see what everyone thought of the way I am doing it. I want to make sure I do it right so if you have any suggestions to make it go smoother please let me know. Here is what I came up with:

1. unplug all equiptment in 40g
2. put filter media in a bucket with tank water to preserve the biological bacteria
3. remove all decorations and equiptment from 40g
4. put fish in buckets of tank water
5. drain all remaining water from tank
6. take 40g off of tank stand
7. put new 65g tank on stand
8. transfer gravel from 40g to 65g
9. fill tank with water
10. add fake plants and equiptment
11. re-acclimate fish to new tank

Please let me know if you think I should change anything. I'm nervous about making sure that this goes right.
Thanks!

i would try to save alot of the 40 gallons water, all of it would be really good, perferebly all of it. that would give you the best results in the move,

Your list looks good, you shouldn't have any problems.

I recently did the same thing on a much smaller scale. I transferred my betta from a 5g to a 10g, so I understand your nervousness.
Since my water parameters were good, I transferred most of the water too.

Good luck.

congrats on the bigger tank !! i agree about keeping as much of everything that you can..maybe you can lift the tank to the floor to at least get as much of the water that you can....and your also going up 25 more gallons so dont be shocked it you get a mini cycle...just be ready for some treated water changes as you recall from cycleing before.....cant wait to see the new tank!! goodluck
