New foster dog!

We've got a new foster dog - a huge female Newfoundland! Shes young... probably only a year old or so. She was found wandering around the town where I live...but she's obviously well cared for as she's of good weight and her coat is in perfect shape.
She's such a sweetie, she came right in and layed on the dog bed and keeps watching the door like she's waiting for her owners.
Boschee (our st. bernard foster pup) is excited to have someone his size to play with!

We are hoping that her owners claim her. Newfoundlands aren't too common around here so someone probably spent quite a bit of money on her (although that doesn't always mean anything).
But for now, I've got a huge black sweetheart to play with!

Yea, hopefully you'll find the owners soon. Maybe they'll have a "lost dog" ad in the paper or at the pet stores.. or some newspapers will run free "found dog" ads.

The rescue has contacted vets and shelters in the area as well as put up flyers for her. I also put an ad on craigslist for her. If someone is looking for her they are bound to get in contact with us. But then again, she has only been missing for a few days that we know of so there is always the chance her owners are on vacation or something and don't realize she's gone yet.

hope you find her owners, then again if you don't I hope you can care for her. I never trust the humane society.

I foster dogs for a local rescue group. A bunch of the smaller towns in the area don't have a shelter to send strays to, so we take them in. While the humane societies are nice (all of the ones in the area are basicly no-kill unless the animal is dangerous) I think animals do much better in a foster home where they can be in a home environment instead of in a kennel at the shelter.

It's cases like this that shows the importance of tags and a microchip. If she had either of these she would be home by now. She is wearing a very new looking collar, but that doesn't help us out much.

Star's owner has been found!!!

They had just moved here 2 weeks ago and she got out of the yard. She wasn't familiar with the area, so she just wandered around. She was SO excited to see her owner!

Aww, what a great thing. You made Star and her owner SO happy! Who knows what would have happened if not for you taking time to care about a lost dog!

Thats one of the things I love about the rescue! Volunteering for the rescue has been so rewarding. Not only are we helping dogs in need, but I feel like they've helped me. I'm a different person for having done this.

And little miss Star is now registered with the city (one of the rescues requirements when returning the dog to the owner). So even if the owner doesnt put her tags on, at least the city will know who she is.
