| Yes I've tried Melafix; I've been trying to treat with melafix for the past week and nothings happened it's just worsened.
I'll be changing my water every 3 days.
Thanks so much for the help! |

| Earlier in the month you posted a current list of stocking for this tank. At that time you had a common pleco in there. Without the common pleco the tank had about 25 inches of fish in a 20 gallon tank.....I would say it is safe to assume that the nitrates are very high.
Unless you start testing, there is NO way to know what your readings are....but if it were me I would do a 50% water change in this tank EVERY day. As folks have told you the wound will not heal in a high nitrate condition. Good Luck |

| I'll try my very best to help my cory! If she heals, will she able to breed again, or is this situation acting like a "trauma" for her?
If all else fails, is there a chance I should "put her down" |

| I don't mean to sound harsh, I truly hope Ginger gets better, but worrying about her breeding again seems to be the least of your problems right now. |

| I wonder if you could try a more hands-on treatment method, like perhaps applying antibiotic cream to the wound, or even liquid band-aid??
I have no experience treating fish wounds so you should absolutely research before doing things I say...but you're running out of options when euthanasia comes into question.
Instead of antibiotic cream, you could try betadine. It's more natural I suppose, but it probably will wash off as soon as you put the fish back in water. zoomed also makes a product called "reptiwound healing aid". It's made of a tree oil that acts as an antiseptic...shouldn't be as water soluble. Last edited by Tavel; April 20th, 2008 at 11:53 PM.

is euthanasia encouraged if nothing is turning out? |

| everyone has a different opinion on it. I typically use alcohol (vodka) because that's all I ever have on hand. I've been meaning to get some clove oil, but I never think about it until I need it. |

| She was put down last night...
as quoted by Tavel, there's no use of pprolonging any suffering hoping for a miracle. |
