hey guys i would just like to hear your opinions on fishbowls... what do you think can live in such a small environment, we know betas are out but how about shrimp? what about snails? even just plants. think about how cool it would be to have a beautiful, well planted bowl in your window even without an actual fish. i have seen dwarf frogs in bowls, what do you think about that?

does anyone know any links to small tank sites? could you have an unheated windowsill nano tank, or a tiny snail orb?

if there were one animal most suitable for bowl life what would it be?

how small is way to small? think of a tiny light bulb hollowed out with a plant inside!

Every living thing needs room, food, the right steady temp and good air or good water and IMO the fish bowls do not meet the needs required.
IMO A 5g with a heater, filter and air is a min for any living thing... But thats just my point of view..
PS... Fish do fart! lol

I honestly hate bowls... my mil has one w/ 2 big goldfish in it.. I cringe everytime I see it.. then she stuffed a filter in it... even less room... I try to make jokes that I would like to turn elmo into peta that his goldfish needs a 20g tank.. but she don't respond...
Dwarf Frogs need at least a 5g tank heated...

I feel that a fishbowl works perfectly for a venus flytrap. That's what I've got in mine!

I think a bowl wouldn't really be suitable for proper care of any aquatic animals, but plants or algae maybe could be grown in it.

Heres an idea for fish bowls... keep them far away from my mother in law! she'll try to stuff a largemouth bass in one!

I know this isn't the proper way, but I used one (1.5 gallons, I think) as a Q tank recently for 2 small serpae tetra I bought.
I added gravel and a peice of fake plant for cover from my established tank and set it on a reptile tank heater pad to keep the water warm.
Daily water changes kept everything in check and they were only in there for 2 weeks.
It worked good in a pinch.

Edit: I forgot, when my husband brought home my betta girl, I set this bowl up the same way until I was sure the cycle was completed in her 5g, about 5 days to a week.
