New Fry!!!!

You won't beleive what jus happend!!

My girlfriend Aida was taking a bunch of pictures of our pleco, Star and she screamed saying there's little baby fishes under him....so I ran and there they were. We found TWO BABY FRY and I've got pictures sitting here!!! It's so exciting and there's plenty more!!! She just found a third one . Its beautiful. I'll be taking plenty more pix and showing you all but for right now I've only got two of the first two I caught! And I have them in the little net in the water so they don't get lost.. what could I feed them??

Very finely crushed flake food usually works pretty well. Any ideas of who the parents are?
Congrats!

You could put them in a breeder box or net (almost like what you have going on with the net). Or put them in a separate tank to let them grow out. Or leave them in the tank with the adults. If you leave them in the tank, there is a good chance they will get eaten if you don't have enough hiding spots. (I let my mollies drop their fry in the main tank in order to keep the numbers down. Plants are good for the fry to hide in (i've got java moss that they love).

It usually takes between 2-4 months (depending on what is fed and how often and water changes) to grow big enough to not be eaten by the parents. I've noticed if the adult fish in the tank are well fed, they are less prone to view the fry as a snack.

Good luck!!

I like to feed our livebearer fry crushed cyclopeeze flakes, crushed omega one veggie flakes and crushed peas (thawed & peeled). They'll grow to eating crumbled pieces pretty quick. A bare bottom tank with a sponge filter (or 2) or a HOB filter with fish net netting secured around the intake with a rubber band is how I like to go with platys.

Congrats.. they are cute little buggers and keep an eye out for more the next 5 days - the platys often drop most fry initially but there are typically a few more that get dropped up to 5 days later.
