Bio-wheel?

Do you guys recommend a Bio-wheel or not?
Can I use one with the hang on tank filter?

Re: Bio-wheel?

From everything I read, bio wheels are great for a tank. Most of the bio wheels I have seen are a part of the hang on back filter. I have also seen some that are an attachment for HOB and canister filters. They are supposed to help provide excellent biological filtration, and if yours is the separate kind, it would be easy to "borrow" it to start seeding a new tank in the future. The only complaint I've read is when they clog. That should be no problem though.

Re: Bio-wheel?

Yes, Bio-wheels are great, because they provide a medium for good bacteria to grow on so your tank won't re-cycle if you change the filter pad.

Re: Bio-wheel?

I have two filters on my 55 gallon tank. One is a canister filter which uses carbon as the media and the other filter is a double bio wheel. It's been working great!
