Upgrading tank

This is my first post to the site, and so far this forum looks awesome. The matter at hand is, I am going from a 30-75 gallon tomorrow. The 90 is currently running however, I will not be using the substrate in that tank. It has a bio-wheel which I assume has the bio-filter cultures established. Currently I have 2 over the back filters in the 30 gallon and plenty of rocks, plants, and decorations that carry the bacterial cultures also. My 30, if you read my info, is well beyond capacity(the reason for the new tank), so I've been doing PWC 2-3 times/week to try to keep the water conditions as good as possible.

My question is: Will I experience a drastic cycling process?
(I know the danio, the platies, and the guarami are practically bulletproof, since they were the fish i used originally to cycle the tank) I do my best to keep water conditions good for the angels, the local water comes at 7.1 so i usually try to lower it to around 6.9 for their best interest. However, I also know that they are very sensitive to high ammonia and nitrites.

Any help or previous experience info would be greatly appreciated by myself and my angels. Thanks!

Hi!

You shouldn't mess with your pH - what really stresses fish is change and those pH down liquids are only a temporary effect. You will want a new home for mr.betta - as he will fight with your angels and die (Angels are much bigger than him, and there's 3!), rip your platys up and get nipped by danio as they are very nippy when kept in numbers under 6. Also, the Betta and gourami are very close relatives - and are natural enemys. The Betta will treat him like another Betta, and the gourami will too. You really need a new tank for him - 5gal will do.

Hello there,
I would do a water test before introducing the new fish and see where you are. That should determine if you are ready to add those fish. Your PH of 7.1 should be fine for your angel fish however, without having to mess with the PH levels. If you chose to keep it at the 7.1, if it were me I would acclimate them slowly to the new tank.
Good thing that you will now have the two tanks to split up those fish.
My experience is that the Gourami and the Betta will end up fighting. I have seen it in my community tank a long time ago, since separating them, all was fine after that.
Welcome to fishlore btw

Well for now the betta has gotten along with everyone there, he was in the second batch of fish I got. I thought that the guarami and the betta would cause problems due to the whole surface breathing and the "he's stealing my air" mentality. However, the betta hangs out in a rock with a hole, which I guess he made that home. He manages to go to it, even when I rearrange the decorations, and the guarami swims around mid level. Everyone gets along just fine, the angels band together and don't bother anyone and noone bothers them. The danio swims in continuous circles and occasionally schools with the platies, kinda funny to watch.
My main question is I'm getting a new tank from craigslist, it's set-up and cycled, Shes including the filter, i have 2 over the glass filters and tons of rocks as decorations. Am i going to go through a cycle if I'm using all of these pre-establish bacterial colonies?

personally i wouldnt recomend buying tanks from craigslist as you cannot verify the age of the tanks. most aquariums have a life span of about 10 yrs before they require resealing. worst feeling in the world is to wake up at 2am and hear water trickling in your livingroom..but that aside; you may experience a mini cycle..partial clouding of water for a few days[2]. just test your water the first week or so and if the parameters are fine hold off on that first wc till 7 days have past. as long as your amonia and nit lvls stay 0 you should be good to go. i always have excess power filters running with nothing but a sponge and filled to the top with biomaterial for breeding tanks and fry tanks and add them to bare bones tanks with neer a problem. as long as your new water is declorinated before adding into new tank, i see you having no problem at all. but test to err on the side of caution. hope this helps... john
