adding a pleco

Hey guys
My 29 gallon tank with keyholes, cockatoos, and cories is perfectly stocked with 29 inches of fish. I have had this horrible brown algae problem that I have been battling with for months. I had the same problem in another of my 29 gallon tanks. When I added a BN Pleco the problem went away within a week. I was thinking of adding a small pleco that gets no more than 4 or 5 inches to clear up the problem, and I have seen some amazing kinds of plecos on aquabid. I am very diligent about doing 75 percent water changes once a week and I do have plants in the tank. Do you think that overstocking it just 4-5 inches would be bad? Please give me your oppinions. Thanks!

That's not a big overstocking but with a Pleco - think of it as like 10" of regular small fish (or more). We just got some 4 months old BN Pleco young and they're in a bare-bottom q. tank - it's amazing the amount of poo they make in a day. You'd want to do 2 50% pwcs a week probably to keep up with it.

Yea I agree with Dave. On the way up to the ATL auction yesterday I put the 10 one inch BN plecos in a bag(4 bags) and every bag was filled with a miniturized version of adult pleco poo. Pretty gross and I didn't feed them the day before so they wouldn't do that but I guess they ate algae.
