Fish and happy hour

I'm curious, does ethanol effect fish the same way it effects mammals? Or is it always just straight up poisonous, even in low concentrations.

LOL...hard up for drinking buddies bro...LOL...just foolin'...LOL...one would think that in any concentration...it would kill them...or screw them up beyond repair..I somehow doubt that I'm wrong on this.

A bit of alcohol may not kill a tank, but the sugar could cause a non-beneficial bacteria spike.
Aside from that, like with humans, alcohol probably would mess with the fish's livers. Unlike with humans, the fish wouldn't have a choice on whether or not to drink.

Well, for them, "drinking like a fish" is more of a genetic problem...

Putting fish into alcohol is sometimes used as a way of euthanizing fish although I wouldn't recommend it. So undoubtedly a high, even low ratio, will probably harm the fish if not kill it.

I guess that settles it, ethanol effects fish exactly as it effect mammals

It is not recommended to put alcohol in your tank. Some types of critters we keep in the tanks (inverts, fish, etc) could be killed from even the smallest amounts. It may not kill them the first time, but you are running a terribly cruel risk.

Please be careful about how far the joking goes, someone may think it is funny enough to try.

(Loved the picture. )

No disrespect intended at all...but...If someone thinks it's funny.... and tries it...they should not be trusted with ANY pets !!!!! They are sick and nothing we can say will change that...the entire thread was intended as a goof....kinda common sence...don't ya think ?

Actually, I was kind of thinking along the same lines as CWC.

There's a certain point where a joke is taken too far. This one is, in my opinion, toeing the line, but if I think it's toeing the line, others probably feel it has gone too far. (I'm watching Family Guy right now, to give you an idea on how far my sense of humor goes. )

I agree that anybody who does this is an idiot and doesn't deserve to have any pets, but at the same time, we do have a responsibility to maintain relatively responsible conversation, and I don't think discussing poisoning fish for our entertainment is all that responsible.

I didn't start the post, but I guess I am responsible for taking it a tad bit too far..That is why the moment I read enough, I stopped posting..

I apologize to anyone I may have offended..
