N00b Tank Options

Hiya

I've just got a tank from a friend who's off overseas. It's seriously overstocked so I'm shopping for a new tank. Initially I thought I double the size from 85 to 160 L, but now I find myself shopping around for a 300 L tank - I didn't realise crack was actually made from tropical fish :-)

Anyhow, I've narrowed it down to these three. Would anyone care to comment on the quality of these tanks? I understand that Juwel is considered good quality, but I can't find much info on the other two. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aquagrande 120 285ltr: @ $1370

Jebo R119 311 litres @ $1070

Juwel Rio 300L @ $1800 (inc shipping - I can pick up the others)

Hi!

I can't help you with the others - but I must say some things about Juwel tanks. The filter is very good - it gives you lots of space, and if I where you take out the carbon sponge and replace it with Filter floss.

AquaOne is a good brand - the AquaGrande will be good quality. I own a small and very reliable AquaOne tank, so I know what I'm talking about.

Go to www.craigslist.org

There are always deals on tanks on there. Just click to your area and type in "tank", "aquarium", and "fish". Those normally bring up the best deals for me.

Hope that helps,

Thanks guys. I went for a 440 L AquaEl in the end. My LFS gave me a deal I couldn't refuse, and they've been great with answering my endless questions and planning my first tank

I suggest taking everything they say with a grain of aquarium salt...most fish/pet store employees give very bad advice, though they aren't doing it to be malicious. They're just generally misinformed at a company-wide level, and are just feeding you the information they themselves have been fed by management.

These guys seem to be the real deal - everything they've told me has checked out when I've looked it up on the web, and they have some excellent display tanks in the shop. There's two shops like that in my city - both specialist aquatic shops. Talking to them, you can tell they are knowledgeable and passionate about aquaculture.

I've had the experience you describe, but at the pet stores that sell a bit of everything. One of them sold me a pleco when I only had an 85 L tank. I should have researched it myself, but still...
