| Your views - Planted nano 7.5gal Hi!
I've recently swapped the filter in my 7.5gal bowfront from a UGF to a Fluval 1+. Now, originally I was going to stock it with a betta. But then, I found out about Nano tanks. So now, my plan is to stock it with 6 Ember tetras (0.79" each), 2 Sparlking gouramis (0.96" each), 3 Takashi amano shrimp and a lot of live plants. (IE - go fully planted! )
What do you guys think? Also, I'm having a little trouble deciding what kind of plants to get for it. What plants would you add? Also, would you go with my original plan and do a planted Betta tank? Last edited by Blub; February 24th, 2008 at 01:11 PM.

| .79"......96"....bro....how in the heck did you come up with such precise measurements ? Did you take the fish out of the tank and use a caliper ? |

| you must get low light plants unless your using a power compac hood, secondly dont forget good substate...ie flourite under your gravel bed and a gravel bed thickness of about 3 inches good luck on your project |

| I have lots of freshwater tanks and have plants in all of them. In one of the tanks(29 gallon) I have about 2 watts per gallon and I also have a 46 bow front with about 2.5 watts per gallon. In the 29 gallon I have a Co2 diffuser that I made with a power head and a gravel-vac. it is a pain in the butt sometimes when you have to brew up a fresh batch of Co2. BUT! the plants love it! I have lots of anubias, all types really. for such a small tank I would go with Anubias nana. it is a smaller version of anubias bartreri. you dont have to have Co2 really. I have it in all my tanks, even the ones without Co2, or high light. if you are looking for a good light I would go with a satellite, I have 2 of them and I like it 100x better than the coralife. If you are looking at doing Co2 it does raise the pH and that stresses out the fish.
I hope I have helped you,
and good luck! |

| Do you know any sites I can find information on nano tanks? And does it have to be a "small" tank? Or can it be 10 gallons? |

| I think that to be techniqually a 'nano' it has to be under 20? I dont know. There is probably more examples on plantgeek. |

| a nano tank describes and tank up to 34 gals that is an extreme ecosystem to replicate. ie a 34gallon saltwater reef tank is also a nano tank as most avid SW keepers would not normally attempt such a thing under 55 gal. the challange is to keep the ecosystem as close to perfect as possible in as small as possible tank size. |

30yrfishguy - since you seem good on planted tank - a few questions. I'm putting flourite in the Nano - but I've recently decided to turn my 47gal into a planted (With Camboba, Echindorus, Pygmy chain sword, Java moss and Elodea!) However, to get flourite I will have to tear out all my stuff - including fish. I really don't want to do this - and I'm currently growing various Echindorus species in it with no problem. I also put fertilizer pellets in the gravel on this tank. Do I really need flourite in this tank? Also, how much does CO2 raise the pH? Also - I have to 30watt flourecant bulbs on my 47gal tank. I'd love to get better ones, but my dad says that Flourecant's are 5 (or was it 10?!) times better than regular bulbs. Will they suffice, or do I need to upgrade the lighting? I know from the rule on thumb that I need 150watt - but my dad is extremely clever and electricals are really his area. Sorry about all the Q's - but I've just sparked my interest in Aquatic plants a few days ago and you seem to be the super-ultimate plant expert.
In the Nano I'm only going to use Pygmy chain sword (Or java moss!), Coffee leaf/Dwarf anubias and possibly Java fern if all goes to plan. Thanks a ton buddy!
It's going to be a FW nano tank guys. Last edited by Blub; February 25th, 2008 at 02:38 PM.
