| Your Dream Tanks Well, there are several (ok a LOT of) tanks I would like to have sometime, whether in the new future or not until I'm grown up. What tanks/fish would you guys all like to have once you had the time/money/space?? (small~5-15g, medium~15-30g, large~>30g)
1. Ghostie tank
small unheated
Ghost Shrimp, maybe Hillstream Loaches
2. betta tank
small planted tropical
male Betta, Otos/Cories
3. coldwater tank
medium unheated
White Clouds, Zebra/Leopard Danios, Hillstream Loaches
4. livebearer tank
medium planted tropical
Guppies, Platys, Swords, and fry
5. Angel tank
medium-large planted tropical
Angels--breeding pair(s), Harlequins, maybe various loaches
6. tetra tank
large planted tropical
various tetras--such as Neons, Glowlights, Black Neons, Lemons, Rummy Noses, etc., Hatchets, Otos, various Cories
7. Oscar tank
large tropical
Oscar or similar large Americal Cichlid, Pleco
Well...my hands are getting tired from typing!! Now it's your turn! If you don't have any ideas for specific tanks, just list some fish you would like to have in the future.
Don't let me forget the tank I want for my b-day...
20g planted tropical
4 Otos, 4 female Bettas, 6 Cardinal Tetras
I'll let you know if I get it or not!
Oh yes, and feel free to offer suggestions for tanks 5 and 7. |

Thouroughly planted, driftwood

3) goldfish (fancy)
55 gallons
4-5 fancy goldfish, hillstream loach
4) Jack Dempsey tank
55 gallons? however big it has to be...
Jack Dempsey fish, feeders
5) Breeding Like Rabbits tank

| Re: Your Dream Tanks Omorrokh, that's a good post My only future aquatic dream is to have a tank sized anywhere from 75-125 gallons, when I have my own place - so that I don't have to move the tank anywhere. Well, say 125 gallons This tank will be very expensive but it'll be worth the price. I am planning to set aside a large amount of money for it so that when I get my hands on the setup, it will be a real good one. OK, it will definitely be DENSELY planted with a HO or VHO lighting system (depending on the types of plants). Not only will it have plants but it'll also have driftwood and rocks. I am already reading books on aquascaping and on maintaining planted tanks - so that when I am ready to get the tank, I'll know exactly what to get and what to do. I will be getting an aquarium-safe soil as it is the best possible medium that plants can grow well in. Natural soil contains the best mix of nutrients and the best rooting medium for soil-rooting plants. One book I am reading explains how to create a densely planted tank, with good lighting system, that does not require any CO2 injections - and this is what I'll try to re-create. As for fish, I have not decided yet, but if the conditions will be right I'd like to get Discus for the tank - plus any species that I like that also will be compatible with Discus. It will be a lot of work with a 125G densely planted tank and with Discus - but I am more than willing to work on it - love the hobby that much! However, a densely planted tank that is well balanced ecologically may not at all be hard to maintain. For those who'd like to know more about how to maintain a planted tank without CO2 injections and where plants thrive, I really recommend "Ecology of the Planted Aquarium: A Practical Manual and Scientific Treatise for the Home Aquarist" by Diana L. Walstad. |
