I take it J.Sipes was your speaker? I put tubs out just about every summer and some of his advice is what helps me be successful at it.
I had guppys, corys, goldfish and a couple of bettas outside.Also my platts were phenominal outside. My tubs were stacked and ran into each other. My only problem turned out to be the betta. He liked to ride the overflow to the next tub. At night he would be in the top tub and in the morning he would be swimming happily in the bottom one. I encourage you to try summer tubbin'
Sounds like the MTS is coming along nicely also.

Carol, I love your stacking set up! Mark Christy was the speaker and his power point did include some of John Sipes tubbin' adventures. I did buy some more Najas grass, Water lettuce and Salvinia (from John) for tubbin' adventures of my own. Here in the far north of southern Ohio, apparently I'll need to wait until mid April to set up my tubs and the middle of May to add fish. MTS is alive and well! Glenn

Water lettuce, Salvinia, Java Moss, Red Melon Swords,floating wisteria and Riccia did really great out side. My aponogenten(sp?) multiplied. Plant color and fish color was so much brighter out side.
These are 25 Gallon tubs and the java moss took up about a quarter of the tub. By the time summer was over you couldn't see the bottom. They had just ordinary gravel in the bottom and the grandkids threw marbles and all sorts of rocks and colored stuff in them
the goldfish comes in in the winter and goes out in summer so it won't be long until he can go out again.

That's a cool idea....Problem is that there are too many predatory animals where I am....Racoons, hawks, crows, ravens, cats......They'd have a feast......

Yes I have two cats nd they thought it was great fun to swat at the water falling from each tub. Then they found out it was wet and they wanted no part of it. some people put chicken wire over their tubs, put them on a deck etc. There are various ways to keep predators out.

Chicken wire? Great idea! During the discussion last night it was said that if the tub was at least 18 inches deep and fairly straight sides, raccoons and others would be a problem, as the fish could stay out of reach. Of course if they dare to jump in, it's a different story. Chris lives next to a county park but said his two outdoor dogs kept predators away.

I should have made two different posts, one about my tanks, the other about Tubbin'. Carol can you assist? Don't forget to change the "subject" to Summer Tubbin'.

Yeah, but if I'm going to go through all of the trouble to put these tubs together, then the last thing I want to do is look at my fish through chicken wire....And I'm not sure about where you are, but the racoons around here take locking lids off of garbage cans. They are anything but shy as they come right up on my deck and take the grease catchers off of my grill!

I can hear them fighting over them when I'm in the family room watching TV at night.....
