Does anyone have any experience with using real deer antler in aquaria? I have been going back and forth on the idea for some time but am afraid to take an uninformed chance with a tank of pets I care about. And setting up a small tank of test subjects seems cruel and counterproductive! My hope is to use the shed bone as a mineral suppliment for cichlids, after it is boiled and dried to ensure any bio-waste or parasites are elliminated, of course. All opinions welcome and any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There was a thread about 6 months ago about using skulls in a tank, and I believe the upshot of that was that real bone in a tank decomposes too fast. It will cause pH problems, and will just desenegrate. Antler would be even worse. Just my opinion, you might try to find that old post. I believe it was about a goat skull.

Butterfly

The antlers are high in minerals and will dissolve in your tank causing problems.
