How aware of Fish of the weather outside.

Hi!

Anyone know the answer to this?

Don t some fish change behavior depending on the humidity of where they are living?

I dont see how the humidity of the air outside could affect the water in the tank. I could see it changing the humidity in the room but not the other way around. The only thing I can think of would be the preasure and oxygen levels. Like if you lived on a mountain to that of living on the beach equal to sea level.

Not so much the humidity, its the barometric pressure. I assume aquarium fish could feel the difference, but i am not sure. Seeing as how fish in the ocean and lakes are in much larger bodies of water. (more surface area)

Something to research! woohoo.

Fish are VERY much affected by barometric pressure. If you look closely at a fishes sides you'll see something of a ridge or stripe that runs the length of the fish. It's called a lateral line. Fish use this to feel changes in pressure. Kind of like your ears. In fact it is connected to the fishes auditory center. This line is what tells the fish they are near an object or if there's a fish next to them. It helps them "see" where they can't "see". Think DareDevil if your a comic book fan. The barometric pressure affects the water pressure and so the lateral line too. I have heard it's best not buy fish on a cloudy day because of low pressure. Why stress them out more. They already feel a little bloated lol.

I've seen our fish respond to weather changes, but the one that did the most was our 1st betta, Super Mario. He would build bubble nests everytime a storm was on the way when we lived in FL.
