Bad Holiday Season...Fish wise

This holiday season was horrible for me, fish wise.
So the day I left to go out of town, one on my female neon swords popped. I was only able to find two fry. When I came back, today, both fry were dead, and my other neon sword popped while I was gone, therefore no fry were found.
Also I was dying, because I had gone to two LFS in Des Moines. Both had my favorite fish, the black sword, which I couldn't find here in Omaha. Unfortunately, I couldn't Buy them due to the 2 and a half hour drive back. Hopefully someone will have black swords!

2.5 hrs wouldnt be that bad...if you could put them in a small bucket w/ a battery powered air pump they should do just fine

I mean that the temp outside was temp not in our truck...lol
It would've been higher in the truck.

Were the fish going to be riding outside the truck?

You see what I'm getting at? You could have gotten them, but I understand why you didn't. Maybe one day you can convince someone to take you to get them...hopefully.

Whens your birthday? Maybe you could ask someone for them.

actually in two days...lol
but another problem besides the risk is that there is no way of return them if they die

2.5 hours is no problem with transporting fish. I often get fish when I go to Anchorage, (3 hours drive + shopping on the way home), and Fairbanks, (5 hours straight driving), I just tell the people at the store that I have a long trip.

The three things to watch that they do. Only put one fish per bag. Double bag, and have 2/3 air and 1/3 water in bag. Some have used the bag buddies, some not, I really haven't found it beneficial in any way if they are packed as above.

Then when I take them out to my car, I make sure I have a box, just bigger than the fish bags, and a couple of hand warmers (available at any sporting goods store), we buy them by the case at Costco. They transport quite well this way.

Just once it would be ok if you couldn't take advantage of a dead fish return, if it was something special.....

We put several styros of fish in cardboard boxes tied to the bed of a pick-up truck covered with 1 thin cotton blanket for a 6 hour drive back in September. That being said, they probably would've done fine inside the truck for you, but as you said, you have to be willing to take the risk of losing your investment.

Better luck next time.

Yea, if you think about it, fish you buy online are usually in their shipping bag much longer than 2.5 hours, and they come through fine.
