Ok ill leave it up to you all

I was at the pet store today and was planning to get a beta for my six gallon. I saw one the “just called to me” or “gave me a look” it was the healthiest looking one I saw and was building a bubble nest. I started my tank at home but I go to college three hours away. Will the beta survive a three hour car ride? And do you think I should go back and get him tomorrow (Christmas Eve)? I was planning on leaving 2 or three gallons in the tank for the ride home and saving the other water in jugs to be put back in when I get to school.

Gee... Im really not sure if a three hour drive is good for a fish or not. Especially the bettas who are air breathers. With a bag closed up for that long they can run out of air. I was in the same position yesterday when I traveled 3 hours away to visit my daughter for the day. I really wanted to stop at a huge aquarium store they had there in town, but my husband talked me out of it. He really thought that the three hour trip would not be good for the fish.
I hope someone out there lets you know.. and then I will also know if its ok to keep fish in a bag that long a trip!
IMO If you had the ability to get the fish without having to drive the three hour trip, then that would really be the best route to take.

Yea, Bettas can survive the trip. If you can double bag & securely the betta in water treated with fish protector and/or meth. blue and put that in a soft-sided cooler to keep him from hitting anything hard and keep him calm.

I was planing on just leaving the fish in the half full tank. I would take out the decorations.

I think a 3 hour trip should be do-able. Let us know what you decide and make sure to post pics if you get him!

If you transport him in the tank, try to secure it so the water doesn't move around a lot (it can really get to moving around sometimes) - so he doesn't get sloshed against the lid or sides.

Well I got 2 dwarf frogs and 2 corys yesterday and woke up this morning and one of the frogs was dead. the fish look fine and so does the other frog. I think when I go to exchange the frog I will get the beta too that is if I can find the same one (or if another gives me the look). I do remember where he was, but all that will have to wait untill after I'm done with work today. I hope Petco is open around 3 today. Well wish me luck and i will have to get some pictures.
