| I have no self control. So, over the semester, life got busy, so all I could do was keep up with my three tanks in the dorm room. (10gal, 2 little betta tanks) But, now that I'm on break, and back working at Petsmart, I'm back to my old ways. Forum bumming, buying or collecting fish... Just tonight I got a Java Fern, and everyone knows the path that leads down. I've started eying a little 2.5 gallon and calculating prices for maybe making myself a cute little plant tank, you know, nothing too high maintainance...
Is there some sort of "Fish Buyers Anonymous"? I need to join. Badly. |

| Getting a bigger dorm room can be a real problem!
I love the idea of a small planted tank, consider shrimp! My favorite tank is a small fish, shrimp, snail tank with java moss!
Maybe with a pair of endlers, cherry shrimp and a apple snail.
Enjoy the break, what's your major? My daughter is in college, and using this break to apply for a doctorate program. 4 papers to write, BREAK? I am going to drive up to see her as she is too swamped to come home..... |

Yeah, limited space, and my roommate has been really accommodating so far, but my reputation as being "Fish Girl" has been interesting for both of us to deal with. But most people just find the 10 gal mesmerizing.
I've been strongly considering shrimp for the planted one, because I have the little ghost shrimp in my community. They're just so darn CUTE. I mean, for crustaceans. But I'd go with the little algae eaters for the planted.
I want Endlers sometime, no matter what. Maybe for this one, maybe not. But the tank is the cutest darn glass tank you have ever seen, and I want it.
Well, I just switched my major from Art to Social Work. Had a fun time explaining that to everyone who had me staked as strictly the artistic type. It all boiled down to me having no passion for art. I like it, I'm passably good at it, but no passion. What I do have a passion for, however, is helping people/things that can't help themselves. But right now, I'm not really in a position to help many people, but I can help fish. Which is silly, but I try my best. I think that's why I like it so much, because they really rely on you for everything, so I can take care of them the way I think they should be, but that most people (apart from you lovely fishlorians), don't.
So, wordy as that is, I'm really excited for next semester to start. |

| It might seem strange to some that you are switching your major, but really I think most change at least one time! My daughter switched about 6 times, she has already gone 5 years because of it, but now she has settled on Psychology, and really loves it!
The state of AK has this program where they pay tuition, and a wage. IF you are accepted into the program, because there is a huge need in rural areas for mental health professionals....
She just got married this summer and is expecting in May, right at graduation time! What a life!
I think you are lucky if your room mate will put up with your tanks, is it a real pain moving them though? What are you doing with them over break? Most find it hard to just drag their clothes and computers around from year to year.........Well sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, and you are fishy, so you have to be a great person!
Merry Christmas |

Well, life isn't quite that nuts for me yet, so moving fish back and forth isn't too difficult. It is still a hassle. My fish pretty much have to put up with being a bit more cramped for a while, because my parents don't want me hauling the 10 back and forth. So, there's a very severely overcrowded 5 gallon in the kitchen right now, but most of my fish are still young, so hopefully they're not TOO uncomfortable.
And I guess if all else fails with the little 2.5, it could be a fry tank.
Merry Christmas to you too! |

Hobbies gone wild usually become fish stores. But for now I am content to have our 2nd bedroom, our fish breeding room, mind you with 4 litter boxes in there too. We're going to have 14 tanks in the new year.
So MTS has bitten just about everyone I know into fish. I cannot go into a pet store without coming out with something fishy. I think of our pets first before us for the most part. We both need new jeans yet we keep getting fish and tanks |

| I went into a LFS the other day to renew plants, a guy served,me i was looking at the tanks and i said i may buy one of these, he was a new guy there and HE said to me' you do realise it doesn't stop at buying one tank That will be the start of it all!!' It made me laugh as a newbie would think he was joking!!
Turned out he had 10 tanks running and past tanks as household clutter. A fellow nutter!!! |

I make sure to warn people, but most of them are too busy trying to put 3 koi in a " goldfish" tank to listen. (I don't let them buy the koi, don't worry.)
As an LPS employee, I have the most fun talking to people who are way into fish, but don't think that they know EVERYTHING. Basically, Fishlore-esque folks. (And yes, huge compliments to you all!) The people who are just getting back into it in a big way are the most fun to talk to, because they're so passionate about it. Just the other day I met this guy who has acquired a proven breeding school(?) of Zebra Plecos, he came in to get something for the algae in one of his side project community tanks. Of course I freaked out and talked to the guy for quite some time, got the website of the KC fish club (where he would post the news later on), and gave him my email for later when/if they breed, because I would be willing to accommodate for one of those.
A bit of a tangent, but that's my other exciting fish news that no one outside of Fishlore would appreciate. Getting a breeder in the area? That would rock. |

| Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time! I hope they really ARE Zebras.....I am with you, if I ever had a chance and the $$$ to get one (several), at least one of my tanks would get a whole face lift, and I WOULD have room.
By the way the term is aquaholic. They do have meetings, and the times and dates can be found on this forum, if you read every thread! Of course the meetings are held in peoples homes, and it is often hard to find seating, as all the furnature has been removed for tanks! |

| I suppose there's always the chance that he could have been wrong, but he really did seem like he knew what he was talking about, which was why I had such a good time talking with him. Plus I really REALLY want to believe that they're the L046. |

| Lucy, I love the pic! My cat likes to sleep on top of the tanks, usually on the filter or light. I think it is the heat that attracts him. Of course I did catch him eyeing up the blue gourami that is about 5 inches long and 4 inches wide. That would be the fish Catersun calls Fish Filet... lol. And I admit, I too am hooked. I can't wait to get home from work and check on the fishies to see what new antics they are doing. My favorites are my loaches who are all in one tank now. Just them and a new spotted cory catfish. |
