is it worth it?

my parents decided to make me a deal saying that if i take down my 10 gallon with 2 ruby rams in it and my 2.5 gallon tank with my baby blue crayfish in it then i can get a 30 gallon saltwater tank for x mas? What do you people think DEAL or NO DEAL? (i have room in another one of my tanks for all the fish except my little blue cray but my girlfriend said i could bring it to her house) So DEAL or NO DEAL?

I say if your rams can go in with your other tank without causing too much of a stir, go for it. The chance to get into keeping marine fish is right on the door step. Let it in. (oooooh that was deep...deep like the sea) LOL. That is, if they're willing to subsidise the start up expense

it would be a reef setup with soft corals and mushrooms. Also inverts and a fish or two

I don't know man, saltwater is a lot more work from what I hear. What are you going to do with your bolivian rams?

I just don't think I'd like to tear down my two stable tanks to put up a saltwater and hope everything goes right. But, if you really want to do a marine set up, then nows your chance. I don't think anyone can really make that call but you.

No deal. The 30 would be nice, but...what you do with your fish now?

I would rather see the 30 get set up with a nice FW set up...a lot less work, honestly.

But...that's up to you.

i have 3 other tanks up and running besides those two. i have a home for all the fish. The rams would go in my 56 gallon with my cards and corys. and my baby crayfish would go to my girlfriends house for a while

Ha I feel like I'm on that gameshow deal or no deal. I say deal. Since you have homes for the other fish go for it. Its once in a lifetime opportunity(maybe not but still its a good one). A 30G marine setup sounds great. Keep us updated.

A 30g saltwater set up is a tease...you can only have so many fish in it...which isn't much. We had a pair of clown fish which bred...they hid the whole time we had the set up. The the different corals and rocks, creatures out there our saltwater wasn't worth the effort in a small tank.
If you would be happy with just that size then it'd be a good deal.
