My Idol.. Evel Knievel.. Dead at 69!

Daredevil Evel Knievel died Friday( November30) after suffering from ill health in recent years, including diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs. He was 69..the mere fact that he lived to that age after all the damage done to his body while he was riding, is in itself a miracle!

He was my idol because, as a kid growing up in the islands back in the 70's, he made me want to dare the impossible.. and I don't regret a single one of the broken bones, cuts and bruises I got over the years trying stunts first on bicycles and skateboards.. then motorcycles.. and then cars.. I survived all of that thanks to an overworked guardian angel, and truth be told if my son told me that's what he wanted to do while he was growing up, I'd probably ground him till he was 16 ( He's 6 now).. but I learned to face my fears and break out of the nerd herd, thanks to Evel Knievel.. and survived thanks to a higher power.

R.I.P. Evel Knievel.. you've made that last big jump to somewhere beyond life, but you'll never be forgotten.

Hi Richard,
A lot of the younger folks do not remember his legacy. He was a great daredevil and I used to enjoy watching his specials especially the canyon jump! It was quite exciting to see him in action.

I had all the toys, and all dreams.

He will be missed, that's for sure.
