Help the noob plz

hi guys im new to the site and also the hobby of fish keeping or what ever its called. last week i bort my self a 5.7 litre tank very small i know but I though it would be better form a beginner like my self i bort all the equipment so thats all set.

But my questions are how long should i wait for the nitrogen cycle to start i have put everything into place and started the bubble making pump thing. my second question is I want to buy snails to clean my tank so when can i put them in. and my last question is whats a good fish for someone new to all this. people been telling me guppies but i dont really like them so if its ok can some one tell me some fishs that i can have in my 5.7 litre tank and that are easy to take care off.

oh oh and i have a pond in the backyard is full of algea and we have these small fishs in it we dont feed them or anything but they are still alive do u think i should put few of them into my tank to see hwo they go?

First, welcome to Fish Lore

5.7 liters is something like a 1.5 U.S. gallon tank. I am sorry to bring you the bad news, but I honestly don't think you can keep any fish in such a small tank. You may have seen Bettas in your local fish store, sitting in even smaller containers - literally in small cups of water. But the truth is that these Bettas are only suffering there. It is very cruel to keep fish in such small containers. And although a 1.5 gallon tank would certainly be better than a small cup of water, I still say that even a 1.5 gallon tank is too small for a betta as well. In my opinion, a 1.5 gallon / 5.7 liter tank is really too small for any fish. But, of course, you can do whatever you want with it. I guess the smallest fish being sold are fish like Neon Tetras, and similarly sized tetras. But the problem is that most Tetras (and most other small fish species) need to be kept in groups in order to be happy and healthy. A 5.7 liter tank is way too small to house a group of small tetras. I guess you could have, for example, 1-2 Neon Tetras in there ... BUT that would not be healthy for them. Like I said, most small fish need to be in groups, and I also believe a 1.5 gallon tank is way too small for fish-keeping. That is: for healthy fish-keeping.

hello, welcome to FishLore. If you had a 15 litre, you could keep a Betta in it or 3 guppies or 3 neon tetras or 4 endlers or 2 cory cats or a dwarf puffer or even an african dwarf frog.

Also,

The larger the mass of water the less trouble you generally will have. Even going from a 1.5 gallon to a 3ish gallon tank would be a difference. A betta would be awesome in a 3g.

In a 1.5 gallon you could keep some of the smaller shrimp, such as cherry shrimp. But they reproduce quickly and would soonly overstock to the point that you'd need to either be selling your offspring or feeding them to other fish.

bettas would eat shrimp probably but you have to watch bettas for overeating, since they will eat themselves to death if given enough food.
