| I can't speak Italian, lol, but I like the way this language sounds and the way Italians talk, (especially the hand gestures) lol. So I guess that's my favorite one I'd like to learn that language someday. Also, I'd like to learn German JUST BECAUSE of how incredibly difficult to learn this language sounds! That would be a real challenge for me! I'd be the queen of the world if I beat this language (i.e. learned it), lol
Or even better ... if I learned Chinese, Japanese, or Korean! Can't imagine learning these languages. All I hear when I listen to Asian people talking is only various low- and high- pitched sound variations! I admire these people for being able to talk both their Asian languages and English. It must be as hard for Asians to learn English as it is for Americans to learn Asian languages. Last edited by Isabella; October 15th, 2007 at 07:08 PM.

| Tazmiche ... if his name was Takashi Amano, then you've missed big time !!! Should have hung on to him by the sleeves if you had to, lol LaughingOutLoud ... I don't know why, but I never liked French too much. This language just sounds so ... I don't even know what it counds like, lol . There's something about the sounds this language has that I don't like. I think I've watched too many French movies on the IFC channel, lol. My favorite French movie is "Amelie" - I remember, during my college years, I went to a cool little Soho movie theater (Manhattan, NYC) with my ex-bf to see this movie for the first time. Watching this movie in Soho (which is a very "artsy" area with a lot of artists and otherwise strange/funky/interesting/fashion people), it felt like actually being in France, lol . The movie theater itself was an old- and European- looking building both inside and outside. |

| Japanese is my favorite language. While the alphabet is extremely complicated, the rules of grammar are extremely simple compared to anything that was originally based on Latin.
Aside from that, it's just so neat. I love listening to Japanese pop music, especially. |

| I have to admit that Japanese sounds a little bit more "refined" than Chinese, and and a little more "quiet" / "subdued" than Chinese, if you get what I mean. I mean, they're all basically the same me (I don't know how to speak any Asian languages whatsoever), but you can see a little difference between Japanese and Chinese if you listen closely. I've noticed the Japanese use more of the "sh" sound. Haven't heard that sound in the Chinese language. I've had a friend straight from Japan in college. She could speak English pretty well as far as communication goes, but she was nevertheless a native from Japan. I loved having her as a friend - she always told so many interesting stories of Japan And it's always so interesting to be getting the points of view / opinions from people from other counrties concerning various matters. |

| Russian!
My personal goal would be to read Dostoevsky in the original form
Learning the alphabet and going to try and get some basic grammar down by myself... but I'm trying to take a course in the spring. |

| I speak Spanish and English. My dream was to learn Latin first then all Latin based languages, or at least the ones I like the most; French, Italian, Portuguese (I think I like Brazilian Portuguese more since I've had Brazilian friends lol). If I ever accomplish that, maybe I'll try to learn Germanic and all Germanic based languages. Who knows? Dreams can come true, right?
I LOVE languages in general and I LOVE listening to persons having conversations in other languages even though I cannot understand them. Just imagine learning Swahili! Last I remember it was the rarest language to know!
Best of all, since I already know Spanish and English, if I were to be fluent in French, I'd be able to communicate with at least one person no matter where I went in the world! Can you imagine the possibilities!?!?!? |

| Supposedly German is easier for an English speaker to learn due to the fact that they're from the same language family, like Spanish, French, etc. are all part of their own. (So if you know Spanish, you're all set to learn French... just don't start speaking Sprench! ) |

| Yeah, a lot of what I learned of French in Highschool was quite similar to what my friends taking spanish learned. I love hearing the romantic accent of french, not the more raspy throaty accent. I think the language is over romanticized, but I still love it if spoken properly.
Dino and I have a dear friend from Malaysia, I would love to learn a little of that language... she yelled at her kids one day at one of our cook-outs I assume in Malay, (she speaks Malay, cantanese (I think?), and English all fluently) and it sounded so cool, like several high pitched clicks of the tongue against the roof of the mouth. I'm sure that is just because I do not know the language that it sounded like that to me, but it was awesome. The kids straighted up quite fast, so it must've been something good. |

I already speak Spanglish quite well! Quote:
