$20 mistake!

So, I was looking on petsmart.com for a new heater, and saw a couple that looked decent. I decided to run up there, since with the cool weather around here, and windows open, my other heater wasn't keeping up. I decided to get either the Rena SmartFilter for when I upgrade to a canister filter, or the marineland VisiTherm stealth.

When I got to petsmart, I snagged the VisiTherm...it cost me $36+tax. Well, I checked online again and its only 20.99 on the site. So, I'm going back up there tomorrow with a receipt to try and get a refund. If I can't, I'm going to return the heater, and buy it again with the print out so I can get the discount.

In short, make sure you always do a price match at petsmart, or else you're probably getting ripped off.

Hello NEN..
the same thing happened to me with a filter from Petsmart. I printed out the online price and brought it in with me and they refunded me the difference. And they did not mind that at all, they will honor the online price. You should have no problem getting the refund.

That's why I don't shop for aquarium equipment at local fish stores. I order them online. I also paid for my heater around $40 at my LFS, only to find out that the same heater was literally HALF the price on the internet. Local fish stores are a huge ripoff.

When it comes to having to pay the shipping cost for items online, I may as well buy at my local fish store, the difference that I would save online gets eaten by the shipping charges anyway. If you go to a chain store they will always honor a online printout from the same store.

I have gone to 1 pet store (daves soda and pet food city) to look at a product, it costed 4.30 then i went to walmart and found the SAME thing for 2.50 (saved myself a dollor or 2 by not buying from the 1st store) you gotta be careful and dont buy anything expensive without looking in other stores

They honored it. It still would have been cheaper to order it online, but I would have waited a week or two. Plus, my recent shipping escapades have been horrible, whereas prior to those, I always had a wonderful experience ordering online. I'm quite turned off from that now, though.

I'm thinking about picking up an emperor bio-wheel to replace my topfin60...$26.99 on the site. They were out of stock today, though.

Check the DFS site -- they're having a big sale, including all the Marineland filters. Just follow the links to the Red Tag sale.

Well... thats Petco for you! I have to say tho, Petsmart is full of very nice folks, at least where I shop. I was totally in disbelief when I first went into that store, I was looking for a replacement 29g for a tank that I had just bought a week ago and cracked due to a pressure point and I ended up with 29g of water on my floor. I bought the tank from another LFS that had nothing to do with Petsmart. After I told the shopkeeper what happened and that the other LFS wouldnt even look at my tank to see if it was a manufacture problem, this shopkeeper told me go home and get the tank and bring it back and that they would replace it for me FREE! I couldnt believe it! And thats just what they did... from then on, they had a customer in me.
BTW prices in most store are based on demographic. So in some states... even some cities the prices will vary. Its like that in all stores. The online prices are not based the same way and that is why they are cheaper, including not having the over head. This is why Petsmart will honor online prices at their stores. Its a shame that Petco wouldnt do that...

yea, my experiences at petsmart have been MUCH better than Deathco. Between their double-charging practice (which cost us the price of a tank kit the 1st time we shopped there due to me being distracted filling out their petpals card info), the manager refusing to discount an almost-dead betta (saying "just pick another one") that we wanted to try saving even though he was so far gone and that response to the thought of honoring the online price they (Deathco) have lost a LOT of business from us even when they were the only store in the little town we were in.
