Modern Day Super Hero!
Maybe we should call 25-year-old Matt Smolenski "Super Surfer!" In Grand Haven, Michigan, Matt's a true local hero after surfing a dog to safety that had been washed off a pier and into Lake Michigan. The dog and his owner were both knocked down when a large wave washed over the pier and the dog went over the edge. The dog was trying to swim but the waves were so large he was losing the battle. Matt jumped in and grabbed the pooch's collar just as the exhausted, black-and-brown mixed breed stopped dog-paddling. He then put the dog up on his surfboard, and rode him into shore. Royce Rodgers, an off-duty Muskegon Heights police officer witnessed the rescue and said it was amazing. The dog's owner ran up and thanked Matt, gave him a high five and then left so fast Rodgers never got his name. (myway.com)
.. a high five instead of five measly bucks!.. that's gratitude for ya!
