Lifeguard Saves Shark!

Not quite sure if this guy knows who he's supposed to be protecting but lifeguard Marius Mironescu saved a shark from a mob of panicking swimmers off a beach on New York's Coney Island. Marius grabbed the 2-foot sand shark in his arms and swam out to sea with it. He said, "There must have been 75 to 100 people circled around the shark in the water and they were bugging out. They were holding on to it and some people were actually hitting him, smacking his face. Well, I wasn't going to let them hurt the poor thing." Marius carried the shark-- a baby and harmless to humans-- to a less populated area and started backstroking out to sea, dragging the shark with one hand. So was the shark appreciative? Not exactly. Marius said, "He was making believe like he's dead, then he wiggled his whole body and tried to bite me. He didn't get it." (New York Daily News)

Re: Lifeguard Saves Shark!

This kind of garbage (people attacking sharks, bears, stingrays) ticks me off.
Every time there's a shark attack, a dozen or more sharks are killed in "retribution." When the Crocodile Hunter died, Australian authorities found a whole bunch of stingrays laying on the beach, their stingers ripped off.
This lifeguard did good in my book.

Re: Lifeguard Saves Shark!

that Marius Mironescu bloke sounds like a great guy good on him i nearly brings tear to my eyes y people would do that to such a beautiful animal

i think sharks are misunderstood creatures like piranhas. its disguisting what people to do animal and how they treat them

for exmalpe i saw an add for a show which was talking about saving whales sharks because they are being captured and put in hhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggeeeeeee aquariums i am strongly against it and it my me sick to the stomach y people would do thinks to such beatys

Good job by the lifeguard.. don't know what's wrong with those people - pathetic.. maybe they're taking a break from mugging each other or something to pick on a harmless, scared animal.

Humans are such a destructive species, that is why I believe that the human race will eventually kill itself. But the way those people were attacking the shark, that just proves the bad rep all sharks get for(in 99% of the time) mistaken identity. The other 1% is like usual for all animals, it is because there is something wrong witht he animal, like it has rabbies, etc.

Because it was the stinger that killed Steve Irwin. I don't know if they were "teaching the stingrays a lesson" or what, but it was ridiculously barbaric and pointless.

Technically it was the taking out the stinger that killed him because it was in his heart and since he took it out, and he bled to death because of it. If he(or whoever) took out the stinger had waited until they got to a doctor and had it removed by surgery he would have had a better chance. I am just going by what I had heard of what had happened.

And it goes completely against anything he stood for..

Tom, of course it was the stinger that killed him. That's like saying that it wasn't the knife that killed someone, it was the knife going into their heart... just because he would've had a better chance of survival doesn't mean it wasn't the stinger that killed him, because he would still be alive today if he hadn't been stabbed with it in the first place.

Re: Lifeguard Saves Shark!

Yes, you are right, Tom, that he would have had a chance of survival if his assistants had listened to him and left the stinger in. However, it was the stinger that proved fatal. His assistants just hastened the process.

It's like when you stick a needle in a balloon with a piece of tape over where you are going to 'stab' the balloon. The air doesn't pop or doesn't lose air until the needle is pulled out.

Ya, stupid assistants. But remember I said that I was just going by what people had told me, so it was like it was 'filtered' about 2-3 times.

Re: Lifeguard Saves Shark!

I know, and I was just playing stupid semantic games. There are a couple of people on a martial arts forum I'm on that have been ruining conversations, and I may have carried some snarkiness over here.
