snails

Has anyone had problems with snails in their tanks? My 55 has my two red belly piranhas in it and the tank is covered in snails. I have not added any plants to it. Is it possible to get rid of them without tearing down the tank? I used a product called had-a-snail and I didn't have luck with it. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank's L.Poore

Re: snails

Try putting a piece of lettuce in the tank at night, then pull it out in the morning and there should be snails on it, keep doing this. You can expierement with other foods such as zuchini or cucumber also. I used had-a-snail a long time ago and it didn't work for me. Another more desperate method is get a divider and put the pirhanas in a small part of the tank and manually remove all snails and snail eggs you can find and clean all decorations, filters, heaters, and do a good vacuum clean.

Re: snails

But from Dino has said, take out the lettuce after about 1-2 hours after the lights are all out.

Re: snails

if it weren't a piranha tank, i'd say to get some loaches, but i think the best plan for that tank is atmmachine's. they're a plaque but can be beaten.
