Maximum Weight

Hi there.

What would be the maximum weight of stones, rocks etc that a 67gal can carry? That is besides the water.
My 67gal base cracked last week and having sent it for repairs i got it back today. We were trying to make out why it just cracked. We have a specially made cabinet for it and its level. My dad said maybe the stones etc was too heavy, hence my question. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Maximum Weight

In a 67g tank the water weight is about 250 lbs. (8.3 lbs per gallon). Another 100 lbs of rock should not be any problem at all.

Re: Maximum Weight

sorry sabi, i have no idea, you might want to spread them out over a bigger area, that would relieve some of the pressure
i've been meaning to ask you, how hard is it to breed angels?

Re: Maximum Weight

We were thinking that we'd put a thin layer of sponge on the cabinet under the tank. What do you think?

I've seen it suggested in many places to put a thin (1/4") piece of Styrofoam under a tank to give it a smooth surface to sit on. Sponge would probably work too -- I think the idea is to keep the bottom glass from pressing on anything under the tank (imperfection in the wood of the stand, or something like that) that could crack it.
