3D backgrounds

Hello! One more question please. I have seen alot of these 3D backgrounds lately, and they look nice, but i've always liked the blue backgrounds. They don't have to be cleaned, and they are nice and simple. I wanted to know if anyone has a 3D background, and what their experience with them is. To me, it seems like they would be a huge maintenance nightmare if detritus gets trapped behind them, or algae grows on them. Does anyone have one of these? If i did get one, i would build one myself, because a background for my tank is well over $500 because of its size. I'm still not sold on them though. Thank you.

Re: 3D backgrounds

All I know is that all my LFS' have them for some reason, and it grows algae like mad, and the otos and other algae eaters LOOOOOVE them. One annoying thing I've found when I was trying, is that they float like mad.

Re: 3D backgrounds

Hello. You can do a search on Pangea or Pangea backgrounds. It will bring up the company that sells them. Thanks for your input! I know now that I wont waste my money. They look like they would just make it more difficult to clean, and cause algae problems or trap waste behind them. Besides, they are VERY expensive for my tank. Around $500.00 I'll just stick to my blue background. Thank you!!

wow.. yea, i'm not sure i'd want them at any price really, much less THAT much.. too many potential problems, even if the end result can be really nice looking.

Are they really that expensive? I think our fish store gave us a piece for free. They just cut it off.
