Airstone vs No Airstone

If you power up on the filter... do you need an airstone to add o2 to the water?

I am currently running a 26g with whisper 60, and a 45g with penguin 350.

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

we run airstones or wands in every tank for surface agitation and water quality.. plus the fish like playing in the bubbles.

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

I'm not a fan of airstone. To me, they just take up room. I use a 20gal power filter on my 10gal tank. That keeps my current in the water going and keeps my tank crystal clear. My water is so clean, you could drink from it!!!

The bubble wands are a personal choice The filters you are running are a good size for your tanks.
I run the flexible bubble wands down the backs of my tanks because the fish like them and I like how they look They don't take up a lot of room either.

If you have adequate filtration then you don't need an airstone. I use them anyway because I like them, but that's just a personal preference.

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

you can combine wands with tank LED lights for cool looks too. i'm thinking of doing something like that with the 30g tall.. plus a moon light. but airstones are a personal choice and you can go with various kinds of them from small stones to round stones to wand or curtains.. stones even can be different materials.. some large tank decorations even work as airstones. Look at your tank and what you want to do and go with what works for your tastes.

Thanks guys... always appreciate the advice!

I think I will go without in the 45g. I have one in the 26g, but I think Im going to take it out.

airstones make a tank look beautiful, it's not just about O2

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

Aw dang! I totally need that bridge from the second link! lol

I am cycling my 6 gallon birthday present tank now, and it is my first time with an air stone. I like the way it looks because it is part of a decoration, but I don't know how Romeo is going to like it. There is a lot of surface agitation with the filter output right there, too. I guess if he hates it I will just disconnect it, but I think it looks cool.

Seems like people are split on whether there is actual benefit from having one?

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

yeah, i think it is better not to use a airstone in betta tanks because they like calm water, and airstones make waves. but in case of other fish it's ok.

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

what we do with our betta tanks is use the air hose suction cups to put the air stones about half way up the glass by the filter.. that combined with an adjustable gang valve lets them keep that still corner where they go to be fed. a lower bubble flow is what they like to for playing in.. especially angel.

Re: Airstone vs No Airstone

Ya I have a gang valve on it set to as low as I can get it. I'm thinking he will be fine in there. And since he's not a nester anyway I won't feel bad about the surface agitation breaking up a nest.

lol.. yea.. even if our guys were bubble nesters, they'd have to do the nest in the still corner.
